Ever watch Bill Maher? Seems we do, not sure why but... It is like he has his interviews with people who definitely are interesting, he then gets upset if they disagree, always something about the president in a not nice way.
I miss Sonny and Cher who sang, or the carol burnet show and other entertainment. I don't need another dose of talk show hosts acting the part, and I definitely do not want to see Fallon act like he is high or low on something. Talk about an ego trip
I enjoy Mauer’s “New Rule” segment. I will watch that on YouTube. I don't watch the show. I don’t known comedians took over the role of news chat show or anointed themselves monologuists to the people. It’s a boring trope. Fallon is insufferable.
Comedians have always made fun of the president. Carson took shots at Nixon through Clinton. this three joke rule, which you did not always follow, allowed him to remain center right, which is where most of the country was during his time.
I was more of an early Letterman guy. I enjoyed the Velcro suits in the Alka-Seltzer suits and throwing stuff off of buildings to classical music and crushing stuff in a drill press. He was like a kid who was subverting all of the conventions of television, while simultaneously making television more watchable than it had previously been.
This doofus recently had Dave Berry talking about his book class clown and it's good. I'm reading it. I've learned a lot from reading books such as Lewis Grizzard teaching me not to bend over in the garden because them Taters have eyes
We might agree on very many things - politics not among them. In the scheme of things politics is so temporal. Glad you wrote/think like your column. Be well.
Dean, I sense we would not agree on many things, but I oppose zealots, dogma, and political evangelism in all forms. Group think only produces ignorance and smugness.

Graham Norton is a hoot!
EXACTLY! Perfect analysis of current late night TV. Frankly, surprised you’d go there on all the liberal hosts. Good for you.
